Houston’s custom pool builder since 1961
Houston custom pools are typically made using gunite construction. Watts Pool Company pioneered this custom pool building process in Houston. Here’s what you can expect when we build your pool:
We apply for al necessary permits to insure your pool is built in compliance with all requirements. Even if permits are not required, we manage projects as if they were.
This is good news and bad news. The good: once we “mark off” your pool per the design, your pool project is officially under way. The bad: your backyard will briefly resemble a battlefield as our heavy equipment clears the soil for your pool. We’ll do our best to keep the mess to a minimum. You should be prepared to replace landscaping and irrigation systems as needed.
Pre-Plumbing & Steel
Plumbing and lighting fixtures for your pool are positioned for inspection as needed. Then, a crew will set and tie a network of steel rebar to conform with your pool’s shape and contour.
This is exciting to watch, but it also produced a great deal of dust and noise. Skilled craftsmen apply the gunite over the steel work to create a single piece gunite shell providing structural strength for your pool. Our crew then trims out the final shape of the pool and cuts in steps and benches.
Tile and Coping Installation
Your selected ceramic tile is next installed around the perimeter of your pool at the water line. Top border coping is also installed to give your pool a safe, long-lasting edge.
A trench is dug for circulation piping. Multiple plumbing lines running between the pool and filter system are installed, tested and inspected.
Filtration Equipment Installation
Your pump and filter systems are installed along with other equipment included with your pool, such as an automatic chlorinator, cleaner, or heater.
Electrical Rough-In, Bonding & Inspection
An electrician installs electrical for underwater lights and provides a safety bonding around the pool. This electrical work is inspected by the municipality before decking is installed.
Decking Form Boards Installed
Grading for decking and draining is completed making your pool more recognizable than ever before. If you want to make any changes to the shape and size of your deck—this is the time. Keep in mind that changes will likely result in additional costs.
Once you’re satisfied with the layout of your decking, concrete decking with adequate expansion joints or saw cuts are installed. No one should walk or touch the deck until it cures for 24 hours.
Our crew performs any necessary final cleanup
Your pool is prepared for its final finish by having any accumulated rain water pumped out and construction debris removed. Pipes, electrical fittings are grouted; the tile cleaned.
Plaster Pool & Fill
The gunite you’ve probably become used to seeing is covered with plaster. Crews mix up, trowel and finish the pool surface. Once completed, your pool fill will begin. We will need your help to turn off the water supply when it reaches the midpoint of the skimmer opening.
Start Up Filtration Equipment
Once your pool is filled, we’ll install your automatic cleaner and start up your pool pump and filtration system. While there, we will also inspect for proper operation before installing the initial balancing chemicals in your pool.
